Annually, on Earth Day, the Town of Middlefield Lake Beseck Environment Committee tries to put together educational offerings in the interest of protecting the lake that we all know and love!

This year as gardening season approaches, the Town of Middlefield Lake Beseck Environment Committee is very excited to be launching a program that will award homeowners for participating in Best Management Practices that support lake protection and improve quality of life for community residents. Many are already picking up after pets, have been avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers, are mindful of our storm drain systems - why not be rewarded for your efforts?  Come out and learn how to earn your very own LakeSmart Home plaque!  This program is a great program for anyone living in the watershed near a lake, stream, etc.

Learn about the lake and efforts underway, what LakeSmart is all about, how to receive your LakeSmart Home plaque, eco-friendly gardening, selecting the best native plants.

FREE 148 page Milone & MacBroom Shoreline Management Manual, and several other guides. Learn of upcoming plant sales, places to go for native plants and additional workshops, receive offerings from local businesses, info about a handy gardening app you can download on your phone.

We will also have copies of what is being called “the most extensive guide to natural lawn care ever published” for only $15 -proceeds benefit CT River Coastal conservation and education programs.

This will be a great opportunity to meet up with friends, have coffee and a bite to eat, receive FREE stuff, and learn from the experts!
